Time-sensitive freight will certainly not be delivered by stand-up paddleboard (SUP) in the future, even with the support of Kiel-based extreme athlete Michael Walther. An "Atlantic mission" supported by Gebrüder Weiss focused instead on the climate-neutral return transport of the nonetheless emission-free watercraft.

After his Atlantic crossing was aborted, the custom-made stand-up paddleboard of Kiel-based extreme athlete Michael Walther has returned to Germany. Gebrüder Weiss organized the return transport by sea freight from Fuerteventura to Hamburg – climate-neutral thanks to a certified insetting process that directly reduces CO₂ emissions in the transport chain.

Signs for marine conservation

Walther wanted to send a message about ocean conservation with his solo mission across the Atlantic. After about 1,000 kilometers, he had to abandon the journey due to a collision with floating debris. To ensure the mission's impact continues, the board will be used in marine research.

The aforementioned insetting process involves the use of sustainable fuels to make air and sea freight transport more environmentally friendly. In land transport, Gebrüder Weiss is increasingly focusing on alternative drive systems such as hydrogen, electric, or gas.
