It's well known that service contributes around 40% to the success of many companies. At transport.ch at Bernexpo, workshop and service vehicles arrived as electric vehicles, also contributing to a humorous improvement in work-life balance: with a surfboard on the roof – for surfing before work.

In addition to the numerous offers for equipping electric service vehicles with interior components and shelving systems for tradespeople, carpenters, plumbers, or electricians, allowing them to find the tools and equipment they need at a glance, those that promise to make work more enjoyable also stood out . Especially if much of the work can already be done

From Sweden comes an ID-Bus from Volkswagen, avant-garde modified by the vehicle equipment supplier "Worksystem" , to which a holder for a surfboard was mounted on the roof for exhibition purposes ; so to speak as an add-on for all those who still have the opportunity in the morning to take a round of surfing.

Serkan Mor, managing director of «Worksystem» driven it from Sweden via Copenhagen, ferry to Rostock and then towards Bern to transport.ch (although without taking a short break surfing on the Baltic Sea in its already moderate sea state)

Moderate capacity

An ID. Bus with special equipment weighs 2396 kg unladen and can still carry a payload of just under 600 kg. The additional equipment takes up space and reduces the payload.

The futuristic ID bus can be raised or lowered pneumatically as needed. Beneath it is an underfloor drawer unit, accessible from the rear of the vehicle, and shelving with a moderate capacity. The top speed is listed as 145 km/h, which the driver claims to have briefly reached at times. At higher speeds, the range apparently drops somewhat. In reality, he had to stop for charging ten times. This is currently a bigger problem in Germany than in Switzerland, which is more advanced in this regard. Furthermore, two of the charging stations were damaged and out of service.

The vehicle attracted considerable interest from trade fair visitors. "You have to drive with foresight," says Serkan Mor. "An app to locate the nearest charging station is essential." After the trade fair, the ID. Bus returns to "Worksystem" in Sweden. Surfboard included.
