Women in a male-dominated field
November 10, 2025

Since the meeting was organized by Volvo, the Swedish greeting "Hej" was obligatory. While the topic of sustainability was mentioned first, the discussion naturally focused on the increasing presence of women in technical fields in recent years, not just in the commercial sector . Volvo has already launched a campaign to demonstrate its attractiveness as an employer and simultaneously promote talent acquisition.

Urs Gerber emphasized that the discrimination against women, who are often disadvantaged because they can become pregnant – a disadvantage compared to male job applicants – . "We can't punish women for that," Gerber said.

The topic, of course, doesn't only concern Volvo itself. Swiss manager Monika Walser, long-time head of the furniture manufacturer de Sede, had the opportunity to outline her remarkable career for those present, a career that included numerous positions from the clothing manufacturer Cassiopeia to Sunrise and Swissgrid . Monika Walser advised the attentive listeners to also regularly reflect on themselves.
Cultivating sustainability
Alina Knüsel also shone as a role model, won a gold medal at the European level in the field of automotive mechatronics after the Swiss Skills .
Still a few question marks
In a panel discussion with Monika Erb, Sabine Krummen, and Monika Walser , Sabine Krummen, Head of Sustainability at Krummen Kerzers, lamented that despite the energy transition towards electromobility, conventional drive systems are still preferred for cost reasons. "Shouldn't the better product also offer a cost advantage?" she said. "And that, in fact, is the one with greater sustainability."
