Automated swarm storage
September 16, 2024

Toyota Material Handling now offers an automated swarm system that eliminates aisles between racks. It is based on the Radioshuttle racking system, the Toyota BT Reflex RAE Autopilot automated reach truck, and the T-ONE control software.
Thanks to its high adaptability, the system can be adapted to virtually any available space. Thanks to optional scalability, storage density up to 80% higher and throughput significantly increased compared to conventional pallet racking systems can be achieved.
The size and structure of the warehouse system are flexible, as it can be configured to optimize the available space. The number of shuttles and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) can be adjusted to meet operational requirements.

Jose Gener, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Toyota Material Handling Europe: " We see many companies looking to increase the utilization of their available space. Given the current challenges in the labor market, automation is becoming an increasingly popular option for our customers. Therefore, combining these key products into a standard solution makes a lot of sense. "
The new warehouse solution is primarily designed for the storage of palletized loads. The goods are fed into the system by automated reach trucks and transported by shuttle units through storage channels within the specially designed shelving system. The AGVs are also used to move the shuttle units between the various channels. Depending on the application principle, FIFO (First In, First Out) or LIF O (Last In, First Out), the system can be configured and goods managed as required.

The storage system can be adapted to any available space. According to the manufacturer, the system can also be installed on a higher level, creating free work space on the level below.
Optimized, smooth movements of the high-speed shuttles and forklifts reduce energy consumption in round-the-clock operation without manual operation – even battery charging is automatic.
