The "tiger" among pallet shuttle systems currently comes from Moffett, a company based in Monaghan, Ireland. SSI Schäfer has now entered into a partnership with the automation provider to combine its 4-way shuttle technology with SSI Schäfer's global integration expertise.

The partnership aims to facilitate the use of modern, scalable pallet shuttle systems for both companies, systems that meet demanding performance and space requirements. "Our companies share the same values. We are both family-run, have decades of experience, and share a passion for rethinking logistics," explains Mauro Lunardelli, Head of the Logistics Solutions Business Unit at SSI Schäfer.
Rethinking logistics
“For Moffett Automation, this partnership perfectly aligns with our mission to continuously develop innovative, intelligent, and space-saving pallet storage systems that are easy to implement in practice,” adds Sam Moffett, founder and CEO of Moffett Automation. “By combining our free-moving shuttle technology and proprietary software with SSI Schäfer’s Wamas Warehouse Management System (WMS), global reach , and integration expertise, we create highly innovative solutions that give customers the confidence to automate even complex or space-critical buildings.”

Both SSI Schäfer and Moffett Automation are aware of the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Besides the need for scalable solutions, it is primarily structural limitations such as low ceiling heights or complex warehouse layouts that prevent many companies from taking the step towards automation.
This is where the intelligent, free-moving shuttles and integrated pallet storage systems come into play. The compact shuttles move independently through aisles, cross axes, and levels, selecting the most efficient route and delivering peak performance even under deep-freeze conditions.
The next stage
Thanks to their compact design and multidirectional movement, the shuttles are designed to maximize the use of available space and, according to Moffett, are also economical for smaller storage volumes. Sophisticated control software ensures short access times, high throughput, and optimal material flow. Furthermore, the shuttles can be seamlessly integrated into existing warehouse management systems, flexibly configured, and modularly expanded – thus making automation possible even where it was previously considered too complex or expensive.
At the trade fair
“Four-way shuttle technology is a definite competitive advantage – especially in times when flexibility and efficiency are crucial,” emphasizes Markus Schellinger, Head of Market Sector Production Logistics at SSI Schäfer. “By expanding our portfolio, we offer even better scalability and support our customers in their growth. Users also benefit from easy integration into existing WMS systems and smart route planning.”
The first joint projects between SSI Schäfer and Moffett Automation are already in the planning stages. Both partners are convinced that this is the beginning of a long-term collaboration that will sustainably transform warehouse logistics.
