BVL Congress in a new format

September 25, 2024

Up to 5000 participants are expected at the central congress of the German Logistics Association, which, with 90 sessions and 220 speakers, is scheduled to take place for the first time at the Estrel Hotel in Berlin from October 23 to 25 this year - with a stronger presence of protagonists from IT, consulting and the insurance industry.

It's worth noting that the long-standing logistics congress has now been renamed "BVL Supply Chain CX." However, given the increased importance of supply chains in the public eye due to the current crises and the traditional dominance of Anglo-Saxon culture, this no longer represents a unique selling point and could potentially lead to confusion with other similarly named events. Be that as it may, according to BVL, the exchange within "Supply Chain CX" is now intended to be significantly more cross-hierarchical, as the expo concept and more affordable ticket options are expected to attract more participants from middle management, young professionals, and students.

Kai Althoff, the new CEO of the BVL, also speaks of a "restart" with regard to the current situation of global logistics with disrupted supply chains and transport operations affected by increasing armed conflicts from various directions in numerous countries.

Even in Germany, the military, which also benefits from civilian logistics services, is once again allowed to play a role in modern times, and Major General Gerald Funke, Commander of the Bundeswehr Logistics Command, will reflect on his assessment of the current situation. Representatives from BASF, Thyssenkrupp Steel, Bosch, and Infineon promise interesting insights.

From the intralogistics sector, Christine Mezger-Behan, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Operations at Kion (ITS EMEA), will speak about resilient organizational forms in the Expo area.

Alice Kirchheim, head of Fraunhofer IML, Ching Pong Queck, head of development at Kion, and Deepu Talla from NVIDIA will discuss perspectives in robotics. Anita Würmser, managing director of Impact Media and founder of the Logistics Hall of Fame, will discuss the connection between politics and technological development with Carsten Klude (Warburg Bank) and Christopher Meinecke (Bitkom) late Friday morning.

By the way: The X in the abbreviation CX of the Supply Chain CX stands for Expo.
