When autonomous delivery robots are added to the usual pedestrian traffic and speeding scooters on the sidewalk, things get tight. This, along with other topics related to city logistics, automation, and intralogistics, will be addressed at the Material Flow Congress in Garching near Munich on March 23 and 24.
Normality, says Johannes Fottner, conference organizer and head of the Chair of Materials Handling, Material Flow and Logistics (fml) in Munich, was the great hope after two years of the pandemic. But it is now obvious that nothing will ever be the same again. Technological developments, including digitalization and automation, as well as the global landscape of supply chains and political circumstances, are all ensuring that everything is changing. Fottner: "A return to familiar processes and procedures will no longer be possible.".

Delivery robots staggering through pedestrian zones and city centers at a snail's pace, about whose legal context and resulting requirements for the automation of the last mile Marco Thiel and a team from the Institute for Technical Logistics in Hamburg will report, are likely to be the minor handicaps.
The Logistics Innovation Award 2023, which automation specialist TGW brought to Austria in 2020/2022, is also expected to be exciting. The event will feature showcases (user examples) of collaborative construction site logistics, which allow for halving the process time in material installation and enabling one-person operation of construction sites; an interesting paradigm shift in crane control; the teleoperation of forklifts through latency-free data transmission; and a visit to the fml test hall.
Excursions to logistics-active companies are planned in cooperation with TU Dortmund, TU Graz and Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg to Munich Airport, the Weissbier Brewery in Erding and Coca-Cola Germany.
As part of an extensive congress program, manufacturers, users, planners and consultants in intralogistics have the opportunity to exchange their experiences about the latest technologies.
