Toyota Material Handling Europe will be part of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. TMHE plans to use smart electric industrial trucks to ensure the logistics and execution of the competitions. The goal is emission-free Games.
As the company management announced, Toyota Material Handling and Toyota Motor Europe intend to cooperate closely to provide a broad portfolio of sustainable solutions. The partnership will encompass the entire range of existing and future equipment and solutions – including counterbalance forklifts, pallet trucks, and high-lift pallet trucks with a combination of electric and fuel cell technology. In this context, TMHE plans to introduce entirely new, forward-looking concepts for material handling, thereby contributing to the Olympic Games' mission of making all events carbon-neutral or even carbon-negative.
Toyota Material Handling Europe's parent company, Toyota Industries Corporation, is part of the Toyota Group and has been a member of the Olympic Partner (TOP) program since 2015. Since then, Toyota Motor Corporation has supported the Games with mobility solutions and services. "Although we operate in different business areas within the Toyota Group, it made sense for us to collaborate in order to bring the most powerful and comprehensive solutions to Paris," says TMHE President Ernesto Domínguez. Toyota Motor Europe and Toyota Material Handling Europe have already jointly participated in the "Beyond Zero City" event, an exhibition at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm, of which Toyota is the main sponsor. The Toyota technologies on display included autonomous electric vehicles, AI-powered transport robots, and robots designed to assist people.
Tom Schalenbourg, Director of Sustainable Development at Toyota Material Handling Europe: “In 2021, we joined the UN Race to Zero and committed to setting science-based targets to align our emissions with the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement. By 2031, we aim to convert all our buildings, as well as our van and vehicle fleets, to 100% renewable energy and reduce emissions across our entire value chain by 55%, in line with the EU’s ‘Fit for 55’ package.”
Paris 2024 has also joined the UN Race to Zero and aims to reduce emissions by 50% compared to previous Games.
