The British rock band Coldplay is embarking on the tour called «Music of the Spheres» these days, with the support of the leading global service provider as their official logistics partner: The CO2 footprint of the rock and pop tour should be reduced and kept as low as possible.
World tours of this kind require extensive preparation and logistics. Coldplay is taking it a step further with an ambitious goal: The musicians want to make their Music of the Spheres tour as sustainable as possible and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 50 percent. DHL will support the band in this endeavor, it is said, and will employ a multi-stage approach with its GoGreen Plus service.
Among other measures, CO2 emissions in air and sea freight are reduced through the use of sustainable biofuels. For land transport, DHL can rely on an extensive fleet of electric vehicles and trucks powered by bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas from organic waste). The remaining part of the supply chain is made climate-neutral through emissions offsetting across the entire life cycle.
In addition to the sustainable logistics innovations introduced by DHL, Coldplay has launched a number of initiatives to make their tour as low-emission and environmentally friendly as possible. Each show is powered by a mix of renewable energy (such as wind and solar power) and certified biodiesel. The band is even harnessing the energy of their fans through state-of-the-art kinetic floors and power bikes.
Furthermore, the band has committed to planting a tree for every ticket sold and to reducing more CO2 emissions than the tour generates through investments in various carbon offsetting initiatives. Phil Harvey, Coldplay's co-manager, said: "When we announced this tour, we committed to reducing primary CO2 emissions by more than 50 percent compared to the previous tour. This is only possible with tour partners who share this vision and are willing to invest in the necessary resources."
