Galaxus Germany is moving
Galaxus Germany is moving
From a bird's eye view, "My Falkenried" is certainly the more airy location: Galaxus Germany grew by 57 percent to €286 million in net sales in 2023, even though the overall market was shrinking. The German subsidiary of the online retailer Digitec Galaxus is moving to Hamburg's city center.
Three times more space, direct subway access, and a rooftop terrace: Galaxus is leaving Hamburg's Altona district and will be opening its new location in the centrally located Hoheluft-Ost district starting in September. The online retailer has outgrown its current German headquarters on Schützenstrasse in Altona. More space is needed.
The Hamburg location now has 60 employees (Germany as a whole: more than 200) who need space. Larger meetings or even spontaneous get-togethers were becoming increasingly difficult in the previous office. Therefore, Galaxus Germany has now signed a lease in the "My Falkenried" complex at Hohenluftchaussee 18-20. 62 workstations across 924 square meters, several meeting rooms, a rooftop terrace, and social areas are intended to ensure efficient, pleasant, and modern workspaces in the future..
Too small: Hamburg Altona
The new office on the top floor is just a one-minute walk from the Hoheluftbrücke subway station (U3). The U3 circular line provides fast access to all parts of Hamburg, allowing as many employees as possible to get to and from work comfortably. However, a change was necessary, primarily due to the lack of space: "Schützenstrasse is unfortunately not a long-term solution," says Sonja Kunz, Executive Assistant at Galaxus. "We want to offer all employees sufficient space. Not just for their own work, but also for spontaneous meetings, for example. And ideally, all on the same floor." Jan Wentrot, Head of Category Management at Galaxus in Hamburg: "We looked at many properties, but no other one combined everything we were looking for. Now we have the perfect solution for the coming years." The new office also meets modern sustainability standards, for example, and thus also meets the requirements of Galaxus Germany and its parent company Digitec Galaxus. The lease is long-term.
From September with subway connection
"Galaxus will continue to grow significantly in 2024," says Managing Director Michael Stolle. The online retailer announced this year that it will open a German location in Neuenburg am Rhein in addition to its logistics center in Krefeld. The first of two warehouses is already under construction. Galaxus plans to move into Neuenburg in 2025 and hire 1,000 employees there in the medium term. The German headquarters will remain in Hamburg, with the relocation within Hamburg planned for the end of September 2024.
