Underground in Hong Kong
Whether at the Gotthard, under the Bosporus, in Hong Kong or Auckland: The engineering company Herrenknecht is almost always involved in the construction of the tunnel. Now, alongside founder Martin Herrenknecht (80), his son Martin-Devid (35) is joining the board of directors of the tunnel specialists based in Schwanau near Lahr.
Former Chancellor Gerd Schröder had already resigned from his position on the supervisory board in early March following a "personal conversation and by mutual agreement" with Martin Herrenknecht, thus shedding some ballast for the company. Under the interim leadership of former Baden-Württemberg Minister-President Günther Oettinger, there was now apparently enough "room" to slowly initiate the generational change.
M.-D. Herrenknecht
Martin-Devid, son of the founder, will initially be responsible for the sustainable growth of the mining business. Before joining Herrenknecht in 2014, he studied mechanical and civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich, Munich University of Applied Sciences, and the Federal Center for Technological Education (CEFT, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Since 2016, he has served as deputy chairman of the board of the family foundation established by his father. He has been managing the mining business as general manager since fiscal year 2019.
