Swisslog is expanding in Austria

July 15, 2022

The intralogistics experts from Buchs are strengthening their presence in Austria with 2,000 square meters of office space and 8,000 square meters for development and production in Eberstalzell, near Wels. Swisslog CTO Andreas Werner emphasizes the strategic importance and speaks of a "signal for the future".

After three years of preparation, the time has come: After 19 years at its nearby location in Sipbachzell, the Austrian subsidiary of the Swiss intralogistics expert is scheduled to move to a new building in Eberstalzell in the second quarter of 2023. The building will include four production halls for logistics technology. Julian Hödlmayr, the developer of the real estate company, architects, and representatives of the local authorities, together with Andreas Werner and Norbert Gaissmaier, managing directors of the Light Goods Technology Center, officially launched the new technology center with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.

Gaissmaier, who has been with Swisslog for five years, says about the coming months: “We are incredibly excited about the move to a modern, new building. The growing demand for our technologies had increasingly pushed the capacity at our old location in Sipbachzell to its limits. Our employees can now look forward to the new location!”

Werner: “Swisslog is on a growth trajectory and is committed to its Austrian location for the long term. As a leading intralogistics company, the move to Eberstalzell will allow us to further increase our innovation potential. We are an attractive employer in the region.”

The newly constructed office building will be connected to four production and development halls. This will allow for increased capacity and the optimized design of a modern manufacturing area. Thanks to sustainable construction methods, primarily the use of large quantities of wood in the building and connection to the biomass heating system of a neighboring building, the company will save a considerable amount of CO2 compared to a conventional gas heating system. The new building, with its modern office environment, will be integrated into a "smart working" model that prioritizes a balancebetween traditional in-person and virtual or hybrid collaboration. Peter Stockreiter, Head of Quality & Facility Management at Swisslog, is overseeing the project. It is scheduled for completion in two phases in September 2023.

Swisslog has been present in Austria since 2009. "We offer data-driven and robot-controlled intralogistics solutions for customers such as Rewe, Nestlé, and dm-drogerie markt, to name just a few," explains Andreas Werner. "Our systems accelerate processes in goods receiving, order processing, and goods dispatch, for example." The Austrian location (Swisslog Technology Center Austria), with its years of expertise in lightweight material handling technology, plays a crucial role in the company's strategic direction

Following the groundbreaking ceremony in the morning, the festivities continued in a similar style in the afternoon with a summer party for all Swisslog employees.
