"City logistics" with a twist

Gebrüder Weiss supports football. The Vorarlberg-based company recently acquired the Bayreuth-based freight forwarding company Wedlich – and now they are taking on a gold sponsorship for the footballers of SpVgg Bayreuth. Locally, the club is known as "Oldschdod" (Old Town).

Fans and spectators of SpVgg Bayreuth will soon find a new color on the yellow and black jerseys of the "Old Town" team – not too obtrusive, and certainly not as omnipresent as Klaus-Michael Kühne's logo at Hamburger SV, but still clearly visible in orange with the letters GW. The new partnership was sealed on August 1st between SpVgg Managing Director Jörg Schmalfuss and Werner Dettenthaler, Managing Director of Land Transport Germany at Gebrüder Weiss.

Having recently acquired a stake in the Bayreuth-based freight forwarding company, the logistics firm stated, "It was a given that we would also get involved with the SpVgg. We have a lot in common with the 'Oldschdod': teamwork, speed, precision, and above all, a love of movement," explained Dettenthaler at the contract signing in the Upper Franconian city of 74,000 inhabitants, otherwise also known for its Richard Wagner-inspired productions at the Festspielhaus. In addition to the first men's football team, the logistics company also supports the SpVgg's youth and women's teams.

"The club is a football club with over a hundred years of history, similar to our new sponsor Gebrüder Weiss. Passionate commitment and skillful collaboration of professionals for top performances – that fits together, whether on the football pitch or in transport," added Jörg Schmalfuss at the contract signing.

In the future, the orange GW logo will appear not only on the jerseys of the Altstadt team, but also on the advertising boards and the stands of the Hans-Walter-Wild Stadium. Gebrüder Weiss has nine locations in southern Germany and, in addition to professional football, is also involved in cycling, running, and volleyball.

FC Bayern Munich will play at the Hans-Walter-Wild-Stadium this Friday at 7 p.m. SpVgg Bayreuth will be looking to maintain their perfect home record against Bayern's U23 team. Back in 2022, Bayreuth, then second in the Regionalliga, already defeated FC Bayern 4-0.
