For the first time in Europe, Scania and Havi are testing the use of a fully autonomous truck between logistics centers (hub-to-hub) in Södertälje and Jönköping, a three-hour journey of approximately 300 km. The first and last mile will then be covered by manually driven vehicles.
The pilot project is a first step to demonstrate how autonomous trucks can be part of a viable hub-to-hub logistics process and allows Scania and Havi to assess the effectiveness of the technology in their operations.

“We know that the transport system will change in the coming years and that the industry faces the challenges of driver shortages and declining profit margins. We need to learn about autonomous operation now so that we are ready as soon as the technology is available. We believe this pilot project is an important step,” says Scania project manager Robert Melin Mori.
