Weiss Brothers in the Outback

August 30, 2023

At the World Solar Challenge at the end of October, 31 student teams will travel the 3,000 km from Darwin, Australia, across the Australian Outback to Adelaide using only solar power. Gebrüder Weiss is handling the logistics for the ETH Zurich aCentauri team.

To ensure that the high-tech vehicle can start on time at the other end of the world, Gebrüder Weiss provides a tailor-made logistics mix of land transport, sea and air freight.

“As a global logistics company, we are a driver of intelligent transport solutions and actively shape the mobility of tomorrow,” says Frank Haas, Head of Corporate Brand Strategy & Communications at Gebrüder Weiss. “The solar car from aCentauri is groundbreaking and has the potential to revolutionize the transport sector. That’s why we are supporting the team on their journey to Australia.”

The students have been working on the development and implementation of the solar-powered vehicle for almost a year. Designed for durability and energy efficiency, it is intended to symbolize the vision of an environmentally friendly future. "Winning the race is one thing. Our aim is also to actively participate in the development of efficient and ecological solutions," explains Alexandr Ebnöther, Team Manager at aCentauri. "With the support of Gebrüder Weiss, we can prove that solar-powered cars, and therefore sustainable mobility, are possible."

Alternative drive systems are highly valued at Gebrüder Weiss. Therefore, the solar car from aCentauri also covers the first leg of its transport using an emission-free hydrogen truck.
