Air traffic in Swiss airspace has increased by double digits (10-14%) every month since the beginning of the year, reaching 99.5% of the 2019 traffic volume by the end of the first half of the year, according to Swiss air traffic control. 94.6% of all flights were on time.
A total of 628,205 flights were controlled and monitored under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in the first half of the year. This represents an increase of 12.8% compared to the same period last year and a decrease of 0.5% compared to the first half of 2019.
Punctuality was 2.6% lower than in the first half of 2019. The strong growth in the last six months was due, on the one hand, to a 10% increase in passenger demand and airline capacity, and on the other hand, to the shift of traffic to familiar routes. The French air traffic control strike from January to June 2023 resulted in many flights bypassing Switzerland.
