Without the logistics division, which generated CHF 278 million in operating profit in 2025, Swiss Post as a whole would be close to being in the red. As it is, the group still made a profit of CHF 315 million in 2025. Meanwhile, the company is still reeling from the shock of the bus fire in Kerzers that claimed six lives.

The investigation into the accident in Kerzers, in which the driver also lost his life after an apparently mentally disturbed man doused himself with gasoline and set the vehicle ablaze within seconds , is ongoing. It overshadowed the annual results conference.
1437 fewer employees
Meanwhile, Swiss Post is also facing increasing pressure with regard to future business activities. In 2024, the group's profit before taxes (EBIT) was CHF 414 million on sales of CHF 7.64 billion. This figure fell to CHF 7.3 billion in 2025. The number of employees decreased by 1,437, from 45,361 to 43,924. The logistics division contributed CHF 4.25 billion to operating income.

For the first time since the pandemic, the number of parcels increased, reaching 186.6 million shipments (+3.7 percent). Officially, Swiss Post reports strong operations with rising parcel volumes and increasing use of digital mail (which, however, suffered a substantial loss of 51 million Swiss francs – editor's note).
"Further sharpening of structures"
According to the management, the declining letter market and largely fixed cost structures mean that the Swiss Post "sharpen" must "Even without the contribution from PostFinance (CHF 290 million), the Group's operating result would be close to breaking even. Our operating environment has become even more challenging," said CEO Pascal Grieder. Alex Glanzmann, Head of Finance, added: "Because the Swiss Post has continuously worked on improving itself, it has nevertheless remained efficient. The quality of our services remains unchanged and high."

To remain successful under financial pressure, Swiss Post will refine its strategy by 2030. It will strengthen its business in logistics, communications, mobility, and financial services , focusing primarily on organic growth in these core markets rather than acquisitions . "We're doing less, but with greater focus and impact. We want to increase the profit contribution of our parcel business, accelerate growth in our investment business, and ensure that customers use Swiss Post services more frequently in the future," explains Grieder.
In light of the tragic postal bus accident in the Freiburg municipality of Kerzers, the board of directors, management, and employees expressed their condolences. Swiss Post is in contact with the families of the victims and is supporting the ongoing investigations by the relevant authorities.
