AirRob is described as a warehouse automation system that uses coordinated, vertically climbing picking robots and floor robots to deliver goods quickly to workstations without major infrastructure changes. AirRob was developed for intensive logistics processes to increase storage capacity and throughput while reducing labor and energy costs.

Pilot project in the Czech Republic

According to the manufacturer, the AirRob sets new standards for scalable goods-to-person automation. The Geis Group, headquartered in Bad Neustadt, Germany, has been active in the Czech Republic since 1991. It offers a wide range of standard and customized transport and logistics solutions. With a network of A project was implemented as a proof-of-concept with the help of Chinese was soon integrated into real-world customer operations.

CTPark Ostrava-Poruba is located in eastern Czechia on the D1 motorway, a major north-south European artery, in a region where labor availability is less of a problem than elsewhere in Europe and beyond. Nevertheless, the proof-of-concept project demonstrated that, in certain cases, speed and accuracy of order processing, as well as high storage density, are just as important as labor shortages to justify investments in automated warehouse systems.

Proven effective in narrow passageways

AirRob offers vertical movement in standard racking systems and fast, precise handling in narrow aisles (850 mm). With its ability to pick hundreds of items per hour, AirRob impressed Pavel Křížek, Logistics Director at Geis, during an initial test run in a nearby warehouse in Skladon: “We know that the capacity of logistics space is not unlimited. That’s why we were looking for a solution that could operate independently even in extremely narrow aisles and simultaneously serve racks up to eight meters high. This allows us to free up some of our storage capacity and avoids the need to immediately construct additional buildings .

The first few days have shown that the robot works very well. " It's precise and fast," says Petra Tylová, Head of Distribution and Logistics at Sluno, Libiao's local intralogistics partner. She adds , "Since we demonstrated the advantages of AirRob in Skladon at the end of last year, demand has been enormous."

Interesting combination

As the first and original system to combine rack-climbing robots with a fleet of floor robots, AirRob could be a groundbreaking robotic solution. It can be easily installed between existing racks with minimal structural modifications and places no additional demands on load-bearing capacity or floor space. Therefore, it is ideally suited for retrofitting in warehouses where capacity and dimensions are limited.

A showcase solution for robots that be used with a fleet of the proven "Mini Yellow" floor robots a significant milestone for Libiao in Europe. Thousands of Libiao's yellow mini floor robots are already in operation around the clock in warehouses and parcel centers across Europe.

“This project in the Czech Republic shows, however, that in times of labor shortages and rising storage costs per square meter, customers are looking for further ways to use their existing warehouse space competitively and efficiently.”
